Lewis Carroll was born in 1832 and studied at Christ Church, Oxford, where he taught mathematics throughout his career. He remained unmarried but was very fond of children and spent a lot of time with them. Both Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking-Glass were written by Carroll for the daughters of his friend, Dr. Liddell. Additionally, he composed whimsical poems and some absurd stories. Carroll passed away in 1898.
