Features: In March 2005, Jin He Ren, a renowned South Korean writer, is set to release the concluding volume of his masterpiece, The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums: The Final Chapter. Upon the publication of The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums, it immediately sparked a frenzy of response, becoming the top-selling literary book on the South Korean bestseller lists for both 2000 and 2001. The Chinese edition of The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums was launched in July 2002 and, by September of the same year, had become the top-selling literary book in the country. It dominated the national bestseller list for an entire year, creating a romantic yet loyal love faith and fashion trend among young people. Following the release of Jin He Ren’s other works, such as Seven Daffodils, The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums 2, Do You Love Herbs?, Like a Girl, Good Morning, and Magnolia Blooms, all their Chinese editions also consistently ranked among the top-selling literary books in the country. His stories repeatedly tell people: true love is not just an optional decoration in life but an invaluable and indispensable part; those who truly love each other possess truly beautiful and noble souls! Jin He Ren’s concluding volume for his breakout hit The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums has recently been introduced and published by Nanhai Publishing Company. Jin He Ren stated that the release of The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums: The Final Chapter signifies the end of the protagonist Chengyu’s love story. The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums and its concluding volume are Jin He Ren’s two most familiar works among Chinese readers, and the release of the film The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums has further made his work known to even more people. Jin He Ren once revealed in an interview that the ending of The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums had always been a source of torment for him, as he hoped to give the protagonist a fulfilling love story. Reporters, from the newly published The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums: The Final Chapter, have seen that Jin He Ren has finally arranged such an ending for the protagonist: Chengyu dies unexpectedly and meets his deceased wife in heaven. The concluding volume continues the previous plot: after Meishi’s death, a nearly perfect girl, Gyeong-eun, accidentally enters Chengyu’s quiet life. Faced with Gyeong-eun’s bold and sincere confession, Chengyu finally decides to accept her. However, Chengyu himself also encounters an accident, destined to be separated from Meishi in this world and the next. Regarding this ending, Jin He Ren wrote in the preface to The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums: The Final Chapter: “I resolved to write a conclusion for The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums because every time I think of Meishi, who stands alone in the constellation of Orion, I cannot help but feel a deep sorrow. Could I send their love to that star? This question troubled me, often keeping me awake for days and nights.”
