Features: Zhang Ling's language is delicate and precise, especially when depicting women's inner feelings, it strongly resembles the style of Eileen Chang. Of course, Zhang Ling is not Eileen Chang; Zhang Ling has her own unique qualities. I believe, among the writers in overseas who persist in writing in Chinese, Zhang Ling will ultimately become one of the outstanding figures—The "Cross-Regional Chinese Women Writers' Best Works Collection" selected by Mo Yan includes ten writers, all of whom are outstanding Chinese women writers from Taiwan, North America, Southeast Asia, and other regions. Although their works focus on different aspects and have diverse artistic forms, they share a certain consistency in portraying women's inner feelings, psychological processes, emotional worlds, and living conditions. It is particularly important to emphasize that while these writers possess either explicit or implicit feminist consciousness and stance when creating their literary worlds, they do not limit themselves to this. Instead, they stand within the female world and extend outward, contemplating issues and areas that often go beyond the female sphere, addressing common problems faced by humanity. As a result, the significance and value of their works extend beyond the female level, encompassing a broader and more inclusive scope. They are both women's writing and possess a universal quality in terms of "scope," which is both the success of these writers and our pursuit in selecting them. "Female writers" is merely a category of selection, while "good writers" is the true goal of selection. We hope that this "Cross-Regional Chinese Women Writers' Best Works Collection" can bring readers spiritual shock, intellectual enlightenment, and aesthetic enjoyment. "Blind Date" collects eleven short stories and novellas by Zhang Ling from the past decade, most of which are related to the lives of immigrants and reflect, at various levels, the pain and helplessness experienced by people in sudden changes in their living environments.
