Features: This book mainly includes the following content:
1. About the College English Test Band 4 (CET-4), focusing on the requirements of the "College English Teaching Syllabus" (Revised Edition) issued by the Ministry of Education in 1999 for CET-4 teaching and the content structure of the CET-4 exam;
2. Vocabulary and grammar exercises;
3. Detailed solutions to exercise answers;
4. Frequently tested grammar structures in CET-4.
The vocabulary exercises in this book are selected from various domestic and international test questions based on the General Vocabulary List (Levels 1-4) attached to the "College Teaching Syllabus" (Revised Edition). These exercises are commonly used, have strong collocation power, and are frequently tested in exams. There are 2,000 vocabulary exercises and 500 grammar structure exercises, covering the most frequently tested important grammar points and fixed structures, such as tenses, voice, modal verbs, infinitives, participles and absolute constructions, gerunds, noun clauses, cleft sentences, concessive adverbial clauses, comparative adverbial clauses, complex objects, inverted sentences, ellipsis sentences, expressions of multiplication, tag questions, conjunctions, nouns, and noun possession, etc. Attention is given to including as many different types of questions as possible for each grammatical phenomenon.
After the vocabulary and grammar exercises, there are detailed explanations of the selected answers, with all important sentence patterns listed and their usage explained through key examples. In fact, the focus of this book lies in the annotations, which provide rich information. A "Frequently Tested Grammar Structures in CET-4" is included at the end of the book, which is highly targeted.
To help readers accurately master the vocabulary and grammar points covered in this book, detailed solutions are provided for each exercise. To compensate for the limited vocabulary, the annotations pay special attention to explaining multiple collocations for each entry, comparing synonyms and antonyms, and providing detailed explanations for easily confused words and near-synonyms.
To help readers expand their vocabulary, the annotations clearly label the level of each entry to facilitate targeted memorization. When important grammar points appear for the first time in exercises, the annotations generally provide a comprehensive overview of the point. Subsequent encounters with similar grammar questions are accompanied by brief explanations to reinforce and deepen understanding.
It should be noted that the "College English Teaching Syllabus" (Revised Edition) sets higher requirements for CET-4 teaching, requiring undergraduates to maintain continuous English learning throughout their four years of university and to pass the CET-4 exam upon graduation. This is the minimum requirement for undergraduate English learning.
The "College English Teaching Syllabus" (Revised Edition) lists 4,200 CET-4 vocabulary words, which are the most basic commonly used vocabulary and the foundation for success in CET-4, CET-6 exams, and postgraduate entrance exams. In the 30 vocabulary questions of CET-6, approximately eight are from CET-4 vocabulary, and in the vocabulary section of postgraduate entrance exams, about one-third of the words are from CET-4 vocabulary.
