Features: This book systematically introduces the history of the development of the I Ching studies in China during the 20th century. The author divides the over-century-long study of the I Ching into two major phases, with 1949 as the boundary. The later phase is further divided into Mainland China and Taiwan. In the earlier phase, the author focuses on the I Ching studies of traditional Confucian scholars, the New Historiography school, and the New Explorers. The Mainland part of the later phase is also divided into two periods by 1978: the earlier period mainly introduces the composition, nature, authors, philosophical thoughts of the Book of Changes, as well as discussions on philosophical historiographical methodologies related to it; the later period focuses on the study of the Book of Changes, the history of I Ching studies, the research on I Ching systematic classics, the study of the I Ching using archaeological materials, humanistic I Ching studies, and scientific I Ching studies. The Taiwan part of the later phase mainly discusses its contributions to the study of I Ching literature, the history of I Ching studies, and I Ching thought.
