Features: Berthold Guerin traveled from Western Europe to Central Asia over a distance of ten thousand miles in more than two and a half years. He arrived at the camp of Batu Khan on the Volga River in Western Mongolia on April 4, 1246, and reached Kara-Korum on August 24, where he was fortunate enough to attend the enthronement ceremony of Emperor Güyük. On the same year, November 13, he left Kara-Korum to return home, passing through the camp of Batu Khan again on May 9, 1247, and finally returned to Lyon on November 24, 1247. He later served as an apostolic legate to France. Berthold Guerin died in Dalmatia, now part of Slovenia, in 1252.
