Publication Date: 2005-03-01
Features: For a century, the character of Peter Pan has not only been the mischievous boy that initially won the hearts of young readers but has also become a beloved icon for adults. After moving to London, Barrie lived near Kensington Gardens, passing by there every day on his way to and from work. One day, he saw several children playing on the grass, building houses with branches, making mud pies, and pretending to be fairies and pirates from fairy tales. He happily joined their game and played until it got dark. On his way home, Barrie realized that these children were his neighbors, and the most active one was a boy named Peter. Later, the children heard from their parents that Barrie was a writer and was working on a play called Peter Pan. They gathered around him, wanting him to tell them the story of Peter Pan. After Barrie finished, they discovered that each of them had become part of the story. Barrie called these children his co-creators of the story. When Peter Pan premiered, each child even received five pence as part of the royalty payment!
