Moby Dick is Melville's masterpiece, depicting the tragic scene of a whaling boat facing off against a giant whale. Ishmael accidentally meets the savage Queequeg and the two embark together on the whaling ship Pequod. Captain Ahab has one leg bitten off by a whale named Moby Dick and has been seeking revenge. He promises his crew that whoever first spots the white whale will be rewarded with a gold coin. Pequod sets sail to find Moby Dick, traveling from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean, and finally reaches the Pacific. One day, the sailors discover the enormous, malevolent Moby Dick and engage in a fierce battle that lasts for three days and three nights. Enraged, Moby Dick finally rams Pequod to destruction, and the shattered ship sinks to the bottom of the sea. The small boat released into the ocean also breaks apart into pieces and fragments, leaving only the one Ahab is riding in. He throws a harpoon with all his might toward Moby Dick, but unfortunately, his neck gets entangled in the rapidly sliding rope, and he falls into the sea and drowns. Only Ishmael survives the shipwreck and is eventually rescued by another ship while adrift at sea. The epic battle between humans and whales on the vast ocean is thrilling, the diverse personalities of the sailors allow us to appreciate the richness of the world, and it also prompts us to reflect more deeply on life, helping us to feel the courage, wisdom, and strength of humanity.
