Features: In China, on the Yаньmén Guān outside the Loess Plateau, the small paths in the fields stretch aimlessly. Thirty years ago, I lived in a small village beside one of these paths. This small village is nestled among the rolling hills of the Loess Plateau, situated on an old, dry riverbed, surrounded by towering trees that have grown for decades. Along the western edge of the village flows a clear, narrow river that varies in width. On the winding, uneven mountain paths, dirty sheep flocks and dirty shepherds come tumbling along, pulling out steaming fresh corn, wrapped in bright green corn leaves, recently cooked over firewood. The aroma of toasted corn fills our hands. I don’t know who will forget the rare sense of freedom in those awkward times. Everything from that year and that month often enters my paintings along the field paths that lead from afar.
