Features: In the 1950s, some materials related to the Sino-French War were compiled. Especially when the volume "Sino-French War" edited by the Chinese History Society was published in 1955, it provided very convenient conditions for the research of this topic. However, for a considerable period of time, the history of the Sino-French War, except for the deepening of micro-studies on some specific issues and the heated discussions on the evaluation of certain individuals, did not show significant progress. This has always been a weak link in the research of modern Chinese history. During this period, some works on the Sino-French War were published abroad, but they were not widely known domestically. It wasn't until the early 1980s that the study of the Sino-French War became active. In 1983, Guangxi held a national academic conference commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Paper Bridge Battle. Following this, Fujian, Guangxi, Zhejiang, and Yunnan successively invited scholars from various regions to gather and discuss various issues related to the history of the Sino-French War. These conferences not only showcased new achievements in the domestic study of the history of the Sino-French War but also gave a strong boost to this research. The Sino-French War was not only related to the warring parties but also had certain international significance and impact: it was directly involved in Vietnam and indirectly related to the interests of countries such as Europe, America, Japan, and others. Based on these facts, this book will include materials from these countries.
