Features: The 21st century is the century of cities. By the middle of this century, 5 billion people worldwide will live in cities, and cities will receive unprecedented attention. In September of this year, China Central Television selected the Top Ten Most Charming Chinese Cities. Regardless of how charm is defined, just looking at these ten cities: Yantai in Shandong, Kunshan in Jiangsu, Shaoxing in Zhejiang, Quanzhou in Fujian, Dongguan in Guangdong, Sanya in Hainan, Guilin in Guangxi, Dali in Yunnan, Dujiangyan in Sichuan, and Luoyang in Henan, excluding the World Heritage sites Dujiangyan and the ancient city of Luoyang, the remaining cities are located along both land and coastal lines, like a golden edge on the periphery of the nation. The collection of works presented to the readers compiles outstanding urban planning design projects from numerous domestic design institutions in recent years. Through these works, we can deeply feel the social responsibility of this generation of planners. They are not only concerned with shaping the physical form of the space but also pay broader attention to deeper exploration and reflection on the history, culture, economy, ecology, and sustainable development of cities. The works cover various fields such as master planning, regulatory detailed planning, urban central area planning, residential area planning, campus planning, and urban design. The design concepts are grand and innovative, with flexible and diverse expression techniques, making them visually pleasing. They are using their sweat and efforts to add bold and colorful strokes to our cities. They do not consider themselves elites or detached from the city, offering advice from the outside. Instead, they act as participants, immersed in the process, as members of the city, standing from the perspective of citizens and users, expressing their sincere wishes and expectations for the city. I believe readers can deeply feel this in the strokes and lines of their proposals, and this is precisely my greatest wish.
