Features: The early form of the Sunflower Series for the Judicial Examination was the "Outline for the National Lawyer Qualification Examination" co-authored by Fu Ying and Wang Feng. It was internally printed in Beijing from 1997 to 2000 and gained immense popularity among candidates in the capital. Due to strong demand from candidates, it was officially published in 2003. The two authors later personally revised and oversaw multiple reprints. The Sunflower Series for the Judicial Examination is guided by a scientific layout and is highly suitable for both the examination and guiding judicial practice. The core motivation behind the authors' creation of this series was to demonstrate the rigor and practicality of their work through profound knowledge, enhancing the effectiveness of the material in preparing for the exam. From the main content arrangement to the design of the format and the elegant cover style, the series has captivated candidates and inspired numerous publishers to follow suit.
One of the series, "Advanced Course for the National Judicial Examination," though named a "course," features an innovative layout system and an extensive knowledge base, surpassing ordinary exam preparation books. Its professionalism is sufficient for use as a college law textbook. If students study this book diligently, accumulate knowledge, and not only master the exam but also lay a solid professional foundation for future legal careers, they will benefit greatly. The book subtly imparts the invaluable legal thinking of a legal professional through its unique structure, narrative methods, and reasoning, even as it teaches legal knowledge.
Some students complain that the series is too comprehensive and difficult to handle. However, the Judicial Examination has become increasingly challenging over the years and is no longer the same as the lawyer qualification exam of years ago. In such circumstances, passing the exam through short-term cramming is nearly impossible. Relying on a book that simply highlights "essentials" or "key points" and expecting to pass the exam through brief cramming is a misguided approach. The two authors did not cater to or encourage this wrong mindset but continued to dedicate their efforts with a scientific and pragmatic attitude. Despite being called the "Sunflower Bible," the series contains no shortcuts or tricks.
"Advanced Course for the National Judicial Examination" includes:
- Civil Law
- Criminal Law
- Civil Procedure Law and Arbitration Law
- Criminal Procedure Law
- Administrative Law and Administrative Procedure Law
- International Law, Private International Law, and International Economic Law
- Commercial Law and Economic Law
- Jurisprudence, Legal History, Constitution, and Legal Ethics (8 volumes in total).
It follows the National Judicial Examination syllabus and is based on laws, regulations, and (supplementary judicial interpretations). The content is organized by subject. The book adopts academic consensus and creatively divides each chapter into four levels:
Level 1: Key Points Summary
This section lists the relatively important points of the chapter. The brilliance of the Key Points Summary lies in its direct focus on the chapter's core, using concise language to clarify the intrinsic logic of law and create a systematic learning framework. It helps students understand what knowledge to absorb to complete this framework and turn it into a firmly retained knowledge system. Without this level, jumping directly to "key points" would be ineffective—a problem the Key Points Summary addresses.
Level 2: Relevant Legal Provisions
This section compiles important legal provisions that may be tested, arranged scientifically for easy association and memorization. The Relevant Legal Provisions level organizes provisions related to the chapter based on their importance. The cited provisions include those found in general "Judicial Examination Laws and Regulations Compilation" but also those not mentioned there but crucial for solving special problems and understanding legislative intent, such as "Supreme People's Court Approvals" and "Supreme People's Court Letters." Collecting comprehensive laws, regulations, and important yet overlooked "approvals" and "letters" is a monumental task. Most judicial examination preparation books only reference the "Judicial Examination Laws and Regulations Compilation" and ignore equally important or more easily understandable provisions like the Supreme People's Court's "approvals" and "letters." Fu Ying and Wang Feng keenly recognized the significance of this content. Additionally, under a specific legal system, besides the relevant laws and regulations, provisions from closely related legal systems that are easily confused or may be tested are also thoroughly addressed. This allows students to compare, generalize, and interconnect key knowledge for more efficient review. These efforts make the Relevant Legal Provisions level richer and more comprehensive than ordinary "Key Legal Provisions" books while being far more concise than general "Laws and Regulations Compilations." It can fully replace both "Key Legal Provisions" and "Laws and Regulations Compilations."
Level 3: Legal Provision Commentary
This section interprets the relevant legal provisions. Based on the content of the Relevant Legal Provisions, it provides authoritative explanations of the true meaning of the provisions, avoiding misunderstandings and dead ends in learning. It also highlights easily confused or overlooked points among related provisions, enabling students not only to memorize the provisions but also to grasp their essence. Understanding the provisions allows for better retention and application.
Level 4: Chapter Puzzle Solving
This section fully explains the legislative intent and the examiners' reasoning, further clarifying the connections and applications of the provisions. The Chapter Puzzle Solving is the series' most valuable part. It distills key points, analyzes examination directions, explains why questions are posed from a certain angle, and provides strategies for effective review. It ensures that related knowledge points and easily overlooked but important details are covered comprehensively. The book offers insightful arguments for each section, and bolded "Points to Note" clearly identify easily misunderstood, overlooked, or confused aspects.
Beyond fully absorbing the strengths of other judicial examination books and avoiding pitfalls, the authors excel in language organization and narrative style, using clear yet straightforward language to explain complex legal issues. Their ability is truly remarkable, revealing that law is not as obscure as commonly perceived but a sacred field filled with wisdom, mission, and allure.
Additionally, it is important to note that if you encounter difficulties while studying this book, you can visit the Sunflower Legal Forum (Sunflower Bible Judicial Exam Forum: www.khbd.com.cn) hosted by the two authors.
