Features: These three volumes include the "New Curriculum Classical Chinese Reader" for primary, junior high, and senior high schools. They were compiled by senior education experts familiar with the significant reforms currently underway in the Ministry of Education, based on relevant "standards," starting from current realities, after thorough and meticulous research. They are intended for use by teachers, students, tutors, and self-learners in primary and secondary schools across various regions. I was eager to get a preview and found it immensely beneficial. The selected texts broadly cover the finest classical Chinese pieces found in various textbooks. The annotations are concise, the introductions to authors and their backgrounds are accurate and succinct, the explanations of sentences highlight key points, and the reading prompts guide deeper reflection. The "New Curriculum Classical Chinese Reader" was edited by Professor Xu Zhongyu, Qi Senhua, and Fang Zhifan of East China Normal University as the main editors. The compilation philosophy not only follows the tradition of past "Classical Chinese Readers" and "Continuation of Classical Chinese Readers" but also incorporates new ideas in language teaching, integrating the essence of the "New Chinese Language Curriculum Standards." The "New Curriculum Classical Chinese Reader" is divided into "Primary School Volume," "Junior High School Volume," and "Senior High School Volume" based on the difficulty level of the selected texts. The "Junior High School Volume" includes 80 selected texts, with 50 designated by the "New Curriculum Standards" and the remaining 30 carefully chosen by the editors from renowned works to match the level of junior high students' classical Chinese learning. The texts cover poetry, prose, and essays. The manuscript is arranged in chronological order (by dynasty), with poetry preceding prose. The "New Classical Chinese Reader" not only adapts to the cognitive patterns of junior high school students but also effectively improves their classical Chinese proficiency.
