This series is organized by the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads and is a research outcome of Beijing Step-by-Step Quality Education Research Institute. Since its publication by the Olympic Press, it has stood out uniquely and is deeply loved by teachers, parents, and students. After significant revisions, re-editions, or complete rewrites, it has been renamed as "Gold Medal Olympiad" and "Gold Medal School" series, and is now re-published by Jinghua Publishing House. At this re-publication, sincere gratitude is extended to millions of readers across the country.
The Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiad (briefly referred to as "Subject Olympiad") is a competition activity for primary and secondary school students in China that covers the widest scope, attracts the largest number of participants, and has the greatest influence. Subject Olympiads are derived from and extended from the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the International Physics Olympiad (IPHO), the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO), and other internationally influential middle school subject competitions that attract millions of young students every year. The reason for such widespread attention lies in the strong innovation, flexibility, and comprehensiveness of the Olympiads, as well as their focus on cultivating students' exploration skills and inspiring their innovative awareness—qualities that are precisely at the core of quality education. This is also the need for future development.
Based on years of careful study of this activity both domestically and internationally, as well as a large number of outstanding books in this category, the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited outstanding educators dedicated to this field from across the country to write and publish a series of books on mathematics, Chinese, English, physics, chemistry, biology, and information technology—comprising over 200 varieties. In terms of the variety, quantity, and quality of our Olympiad books, they are considered the most influential in their field both domestically and internationally, and are the most appealing to primary and secondary school teachers and students.
The purpose and characteristics of the "Gold Medal Olympiad" and "Gold Medal School" series are as follows:
High: Derived from textbooks but exceeding them. Derived from textbooks means it is written in accordance with the latest [curriculum standards] of the Ministry of Education; exceeding textbooks means it is closely aligned with the competition syllabi of various levels, ensuring comprehensive alignment in content, question types, and skill requirements, thereby fostering interest, developing intelligence, and enhancing abilities.
Accurate: Scientifically precise and structurally sound. Each book is designed according to the characteristics of the subject, scientifically organized, and follows a progressive principle, providing in-depth yet accessible analysis and detailed problem-solving methods.
Innovative: The questions selected are novel, unique, and highly engaging. They gather the essence of recent Olympiad, middle school, and high school exam questions from both China and abroad, representing the highest level of current Olympiad standards and reflecting new concepts in curriculum reform, as well as new ideas, methods, and trends in competition question-setting.
Refined: Carefully selected examples are challenging yet not obscure, flexible yet achievable. The focus is on generalization and cross-application; it emphasizes multi-solution, multi-transformation, and multi-question approaches to problems, with an emphasis on training thinking skills rather than rote memorization, making learning an interest and hobby.
Renowned: A gathering of famous teachers and a collection of famous competitions. The Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited renowned university professors, distinguished teachers from key secondary schools, senior teachers, subject leaders, and famous Olympiad medal coaches to contribute.
