The book is titled TEM-4 Reform and Authentic Test Questions, which might seem puzzling. When we say "authentic tests," we refer to past exam papers. If we use past papers, how can it be called a "reformulated test volume"? However, this very point highlights the book's uniqueness. It fully reflects the spirit of the new exam syllabus, aligns closely with the new requirements, and stays ahead of TEM-4 reform. The Syllabus for English Teaching in Higher Education Institutions (Revised Edition 2000) (hereinafter referred to as The Syllabus) has proposed new requirements and standards for the cultivation of English majors, curriculum design, teaching demands, and principles. The English Group of the Teaching Advisory Committee for Foreign Language Majors in Higher Education Institutions revised the Syllabus for the College English Test Band 4 (Revised Edition) published in 1997 accordingly. The revised Syllabus for the College English Test Band 4 (hereinafter referred to as "The Syllabus") was officially published in March 2004. This book was compiled based on the new syllabus. It remains an "authentic test." How difficult is the TEM-4 exam? What are the reliability and validity of its test papers? The editors' understanding, no matter how accurate, can never fully match the real exam. Therefore, we decided to use past exam papers as the benchmark for self-assessment and study for our readers! It is evident that our "authentic tests" have been rewritten. We have completely revised past TEM-4 papers according to the requirements of the new syllabus. This approach serves two purposes: first, to give readers a realistic sense of the exam, fully adapting them to the new TEM-4 formats and requirements; second, to help readers familiarize themselves with the TEM-4 exam setting, including experiencing the true difficulty of the questions, so they can approach the exam with confidence and handle it calmly.
