Features: The first part of this textbook divides the history of the modern era over eighty years into six chapters, each representing a distinct period. Chapter "The Opium War and the Beginning of Modern Chinese History" contains relatively little content but is highly important. Chapter 2, "The Taiping Rebellion and the Second Opium War," covers history that largely falls within the second period of modern Chinese historical development. Chapter 3, "The Emergence of Capitalism in China and the Deepening Foreign Invasion," narrates the content of the third period in modern Chinese history. Chapter 4, "The Wuxu Reform and the Boxer Movement," describes two distinctive patriotic and salvation movements during the fourth period of modern Chinese historical development. Chapter 5, "The Xinhai Revolution," covers history that falls within the fifth period of modern Chinese historical development. Chapter 6, "The Dark Rule of the Beiyang Warlords and the New Trends of Modern Chinese History," narrates the content of the final period of eighty years in modern Chinese history.
The second part selects six important topics related to the overall history of modern China, aiming to supplement the shortcomings of the first part and help students grasp some of the major issues and key academic viewpoints in the field of modern Chinese history. During the teaching process, teachers can flexibly arrange the content of these topics based on the library resources and specific conditions of each school. For example, some of the content of these topics can be moved to the beginning of the entire course or integrated into specific issues within a chapter of the first part. It is not necessary to follow a strict order or rigid rules for teaching.
