Features: This book is a revised edition of "Electromagnetic Fields and Waves" (Second Edition) authored by Professors Xie Chuufang and Rao Kejin and published by Higher Education Press in July 1987. Due to the advanced age of Professors Xie and Rao, the revision was jointly completed by Professors Zhao Jiasheng and Yuan Jinghong. During the revision process, the teaching basic requirements formulated by the National Teaching Guidance Group for Electromagnetic Field Theory Courses in Ordinary Universities of Engineering in 1993 and promulgated by the former State Education Commission were referenced. Suggestions and opinions from teachers of some universities who used the textbook were incorporated, along with the long-term teaching experiences of the revisers in using the textbook. Compared to the previous edition, the main adjustments in the teaching content and structural organization of this revision are as follows:
(1) The original writing system is retained, with the textbook content organized in the order of electrostatic fields, steady electric fields, Maxwell's equations, and sinusoidal electromagnetic fields and waves. However, significant adjustments were made in writing style and chapter arrangement. For example, the definitions of electric field intensity E and magnetic induction B in electrostatic and steady magnetic fields, two fundamental experimental laws, vector integral formulas, and the Lorentz formula were consolidated into a new chapter titled "Basic Physical Quantities and Fundamental Experimental Laws in Electromagnetic Fields."
(2) The chapter "Steady Electric Fields" in the original book was removed, with some of its content merged into "Electrostatic Field Analysis."
(3) The chapter "Interaction Between Charged Particles and Fields" in the original book was removed, with related content included in chapters such as "Electrostatic Field Analysis" and "Steady Magnetic Field Analysis." The concept of interaction is not emphasized; instead, the motion of charged particles in external fields is discussed.
(4) The chapter "Solutions of Static Fields" in the original book was revised to "Solution Methods for Boundary Value Problems of Static Fields" and placed immediately after "Electrostatic Field Analysis" to enable students to more focusedly understand and master the general methods for solving potential field problems. Additionally, this chapter removed the original methods of complex function theory and the Schwarz-Christoffel transformation.
(5) The chapter "Waveguides and Resonant Cavities" in the original book was revised to "Guided Electromagnetic Waves," with content on transmission lines added.
(6) The exercises at the end of the book were reorganized and supplemented, with answers provided for some of them.
