He has published numerous papers in this area and proposed a variable-target peephole optimization method, which has been adopted by the widely popular C compiler GCC. From 1997 to 1986, Fraser taught computer science at the University of Arizona. After 1986, he led research on computing technology at Bell Labs. David R. Hanson is a professor of computer science at Princeton University with over 20 years of experience in programming language research. He has led collaborative research with Bell Labs and is one of the developers of Lcc.
