Publishing Date: 2004-07-01
Features: Based on the teaching requirements of College English Test Band 4 (which requires students to master a basic vocabulary of 4,000 words), this dictionary provides 3,300 commonly used medical terms (including some frequently used general terms in medical books), helping students expand their vocabulary to over 7,000 words. This will create favorable conditions for smooth medical reading. The vocabulary collected in this dictionary is selected from English and American medical textbooks, covering more than ten disciplines, including both basic and clinical courses. It has been determined based on the long-term experience of the compilers in teaching medical English and their accumulated lists of commonly used words. Since its first publication in 1997, the Common Medical English Dictionary has been reprinted multiple times and has been well-received by readers. This revised and expanded edition enriches the content, increasing the number of entries from 330 to 7,000 and the number of example sentences from 8,000 to 17,000. Adding the 4,000 words required by the College English Test Band 4 teaching standards to the 7,000 carefully selected common words in this dictionary (including relatively common specialized terms and general terms in various medical fields), the total comes to approximately 11,000 words, which can basically meet the systematic learning and reference needs of medical readers. The vocabulary collected in this dictionary is primarily limited to commonly used medical terms. In this revised edition, attention has also been paid to selecting some relatively new commonly used medical terms, and the content of example sentences has been strengthened to reflect the latest developments in medicine. Each entry includes English-Chinese comparative example sentences, which deepen the understanding of the word's meaning and its usage in medical literature, aiding in vocabulary memorization and reading comprehension of medical articles.
