Features: During the writing process of this textbook, we carefully considered the following issues:
1. To thoroughly change the "system + explanation" phenomenon in previous accounting textbooks and ensure the content has a certain stability. Since past accounting textbooks were primarily based on current systems and textual explanations, supplemented by some examples, the content often appeared outdated with changes in the system. Therefore, we no longer adhered to the provisions of the current system but started from international practices, referring to the requirements of Chinese accounting standards, and took the introduction of basic accounting principles as the foundation to write this textbook, thus ensuring a certain stability in its content.
2. Considering that students learning principles have never been exposed to accounting, based on the laws of cognition, we designed three accounting cycles using examples from the service industry, commerce, and manufacturing, starting easy and gradually increasing in difficulty, and going from simple to complex, aiming to help students quickly understand and master basic accounting principles.
3. From the perspective of accounting as an information system, the information processing process of accounting includes identification, recording, measurement, and reporting. This book focuses on the recording stage while also covering the other three stages—identification, measurement, and reporting. We hope that after studying this book, students can master the basic knowledge and skills of bookkeeping, specifically the fundamental methods and procedures for basic recording and calculation.
4. To facilitate teaching and learning, review questions are provided at the end of each chapter.
Principles of Accounting is aimed at undergraduate accounting majors in higher education institutions, while also catering to the needs of students in other finance-related majors at the undergraduate and college levels for learning accounting principles. It can serve as a textbook for undergraduate and college students studying the principles of accounting. Additionally, it can be used for professional development of accountants and as a reference book for teachers.
