Women and Society

Features: The twelve papers selected in this volume cover a time span from two weeks to the first half of the 20th century, with half of them focusing on the Ming and Qing dynasties. On one hand, the editors have strived to encompass the entire historical period, attempting to present the achievements of women's history in each era. On the other hand, the recent emphasis on new sources and perspectives in the field of Ming and Qing studies has also been reflected in women's history research. Among these twenty papers, only two were published in 1991, while the rest were published within the past decade, with three of them being works from 2003. This is not the editors' preference for novelty over the old, but rather because women's history research in Taiwan has flourished in the past decade, with fresh perspectives and outstanding works. Among the twelve papers, two are from the Journal of the Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica, three are from the New History magazine, and three are from the Journal of Modern Chinese Women's History, which largely reflect the journals that frequently publish papers related to Chinese women's history.
