Features: Martin Eden is an immortal work by Jack London. The first half of the novel draws from the author's early life experiences and his later rise to fame, capturing the real record of his fervent first love and early struggles, filled with a vivid and natural honesty. Young sailor Martin Eden meets the Rose family and is utterly amazed by the life of the bourgeoisie. What fascinates him even more is the elegant and beautiful Rose. Rose also falls in love with this young man full of strength, like a fresh breeze. To bridge the vast gap between himself and Rose, he resolves to climb up. Driven by the powerful motivation of longing for pure love, he dedicates himself to studying. He keeps writing but faces cold rejections, with only Brewster, a cynical literary genius, appreciating his work. Martin Eden gradually discovers that high society is not as noble as he imagined. Rose leaves him, Brewster dies, and his spiritual collapses. Yet, fate plays a cruel trick on him. Overnight, he becomes famous, with wealth and fame rolling in. Those who once looked down on him now fawn over him, and Rose even comes to him. Martin Eden sees through and despises all this, finally realizing that Rose is not a goddess but just a pale and vulgar bourgeois girl. In a complete sense of disillusionment, Martin Eden ends his young life at night on the dark sea, like an irresistible fate in Greek mythology, becoming a prophecy of the life of a writer. Martin Eden is a great work that transcends its time, playing a pioneering role in American literary history and influencing many subsequent works depicting the American Dream.
