Features: After completing the "School of Velocity" (Op. 849), students can typically proceed to learn the "Piano Studies in Rapid Execution" (Op. 299). Of course, they will face many new technical challenges, but with proper guidance and diligent practice, they can reach a new level. Op. 299 requires clear articulation and the ability to achieve fast speeds while maintaining relaxed wrists. Younger students may still have weak finger strength after completing Op. 849, so teachers might suggest supplementary or transitional exercises such as Op. 636 or Op. 718. In most cases, even if Op. 849 is finished, the playing may not be up to standard. If that's the case, it might be difficult to meet the speed requirements of this exercise. It is recommended not to strictly adhere to the marked tempo in the early stages of practice but to adjust it based on the learner's finger strength—for example, reducing the marked tempo to 60% or even 50%. However, the tempo should gradually increase during the learning process, and by the end of the book, the playing speed should reach at least 80% of the original marked tempo.，the marked tempo in this book is generally unattainable for most amateur players. The book is divided into four volumes, each containing ten pieces. The first volume reviews basic techniques and strengthens finger fundamentals. The second volume begins with rapid finger exercises and familiarizes students with various patterns, which are fundamental vocabulary in 19th-century piano music. We still adhere to this principle: treat etudes as pieces, and the learning process will not feel monotonous. On the contrary, it will help students develop musical expression techniques.
