Features: To express our gratitude to the fans for their long-standing support of "The Same Song," we meticulously planned this songbook on the occasion of its fifth anniversary. We have compiled beloved songs from different eras that resonate with middle-aged and elderly audiences, allowing unforgettable melodies to flow through the river of time and become timeless classics. We hope this songbook accompanies you as you savor these beautiful songs and enchanting melodies once again.
Flowers once told me how you walked by;
The earth knows every corner of your heart;
Sweet dreams, none will miss them;
At last, we welcome this joyful reunion.
Thousand rivers, ten thousand mountains, we have passed;
Every meeting and smile are etched in our memories;
On sunny, joyful days,
We hold hands, with too much to say;
Starlight fills every childhood;
Through storms, we’ve walked the corners of the world;
The same feelings give us the same yearning;
The same joy gives us the same song.
With the diversification of people’s demands for cultural life, choral music, as a form of art, has gained increasing popularity among the masses. Nowadays, amateur choirs, especially elderly choirs, are growing in number, with numerous choirsing in major and medium-sized cities and towns across the country. Through choral activities, not only is the leisure cultural life of the elderly enriched, but they also experience the charm of choral art, cultivate their temperament, and contribute to building a harmonious society.
In early May 2005, the Beijing Elderly Choir Competition, organized by the Beijing Committee on Ageing and the Choral Union of the China Music, was held to solemnly commemorate the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Anti-Fascist War and the War of Resistance against Japan. Its aim was to inspire a wave of singing songs from the World Anti-Fascist War, especially those from the War of Resistance against Japan, and to promote patriotic enthusiasm. From this perspective, choral art not only unites a choir but also unites a nation and a people.
To meet the needs of the public, we have specially edited and published two versions of "Choral Masterpieces from China and Beyond" for the elderly. Considering the characteristics of the elderly and the convenience of use, the font size, layout, and binding differ from general publications. In terms of themes and styles, we have ensured diversity, including choral pieces that reflect life in different eras and are full of contemporary spirit, as well as those that depict revolutionary history and praise noble sentiments. There are also vibrant popular songs, elegant art songs, and rustic folk songs. Additionally, we have written "Performance Notes" after each choral piece for your reference.
