Features: The feminist movement emerging in China has begun to play a similar role to governments by providing advice on the gender impact of policies related to poverty alleviation, educational reform, reproductive health, and laws affecting women. Supported by the Ford Foundation, the "Feminism and Public Policy" project at the Institute of Philosophy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has made significant contributions in this regard over the past four years through the seminars it has held. These seminars brought together leading feminist thinkers, government officials, and researchers in China to discuss critical public policy issues facing women. These discussions and the recommendations proposed at these conferences represent innovative and creative thinking on women's issues. This collection of essays reflects the individual and collective research findings of the participating experts.
