Publishing Date: 2005-05-01
Features: "The Great Dictionary of China's Meteorological Disasters·Liaoning Volume" primarily collects and reviews major meteorological disaster cases affecting Liaoning Province and their impacts on the national economy and social development. The content included in this volume consists of disasters directly or indirectly caused by meteorological factors. These include direct disasters such as floods, droughts, hailstorms, strong winds, cold waves with snow, thunderstorms, tornadoes, wind shear, low-temperature cold damage, as well as secondary disasters like storm surges, sea ice, red tides, debris flows, and atmospheric pollution events. The time frame for this volume follows the new definition in Chinese historical studies: before 1839 is classified as ancient, 1840–1949 as modern, and after October 1, 1949, the founding of the People's Republic of China, as modern. The modern section of this volume ends in 2000.
Data Selection: Due to the varying levels of detail in ancient, modern, and contemporary data, the principle of "looser selection for the ancient and stricter for the modern" was followed. Ancient data were generally collected comprehensively as long as they were recorded, while modern data were strictly screened and carefully verified before being adopted.
Geographical Scope: Descriptions of events within different historical administrative divisions are defined according to the administrative divisions of the time. Generally, the term "Liaoning region" is used to refer to the broader area.
