Collection of Su Ci

Author: Zhang Yinyin
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2005-05-01
Features: The title "Collected Works of a Simple Scholar," though carrying a double meaning, does not refer to the literary collection of the Zhang family from industrial and mining enterprises. It takes its literal meaning to show the lifelong obsession of Zhang Yinyin, a man of simple heart, with learning. The selection of this book is based on accessibility, with limited length, yet it spans literature, history, and philosophy, covering various aspects such as commentary, historical critique, literary critique, and character appraisal. It traverses the past and present of China and the world, sufficient to reflect Zhang Yinyin's spiritual temperament, intellectual style, and multifaceted talents. It serves not only to preserve the literary legacy of a generation of scholars but also to provide reference for contemporary scholars. There is no need to chase after quantity. This collection does not include overly specialized works. Even historical essays included are edited to retain only the clear and accessible segments. Translated or compiled works are also excluded. All selected articles have been reed, punctuated, and some titles have been revised. Annotations are provided for certain articles. Obvious typos are corrected directly without annotation. Some translated names are revised according to current common usage. Individual words or phrases are also adjusted according to current usage, but without harming the original work. Annotations are occasionally added for better understanding.
