Features: This book aims to explain and argue to friends who know or do not know China, to the Chinese who understand or do not understand themselves, and to the next generation that grows consciously or unconsciously, why the Chinese can stand independently in the forest of human civilization and how they can rise peacefully amidst the blows of modern civilization. This book is also dedicated to the hardworking and wise Chinese who created the "25 Years of China" in adversity, as well as all international friends. The writing of this book takes the emerging social groups of the past 25 years as a starting point for sociological psychology analysis. The emerging groups mentioned in the book include six categories: intellectual elites, entrepreneurs, laid-off-employed workers, rural migrant workers, netizens, and leisure groups, each with their respective roles and vitality, becoming an important force driving China's reform, opening up, and development. However, this does not encompass all the strata or occupational groups in contemporary China, and the introduction provides some explanations on this matter.
Special mention in the preface and elaboration is given to scientists and the science and technology community engaged in scientific and technological activities. They are not given a separate chapter in the book. The reason for this is that, in a relative sense of characteristics, scientists and the science and technology community are distinguished from the six groups mentioned in the book. This distinction is relative to the "emerging" role groups of the past 25 years, rather than to their importance. The long-term hard work and entrepreneurial spirit of scientists and the science and technology community have left an indelible mark on us, and they are a group worth special praise. The development of China over the past 25 years has profoundly verified the proposition that "science and technology are productive forces."
