New Japanese (3) Revised Edition (Revised Edition)

Author: Gu Xueqian
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2002-07-01
Features: This book was originally published in three volumes: Japanese I, II, and III, designed for foreign students at the Japanese School of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies who were beginners in Japanese. Using this textbook for teaching enables students to acquire the ability to engage in various learning activities in Japanese at Japanese universities. Our preparatory school for Japanese studies in Japan also adopts this textbook, and years of teaching practice have further proven its effectiveness. Chinese students who study this textbook for half a year can basically understand Japanese teachers' lectures on subjects like mathematics and physics; after eleven months of study, they can understand Japanese teachers' lectures upon entering Japanese universities. Currently, this textbook is highly popular among Japanese students preparing to study in Japan and Japanese enthusiasts in many countries. To meet the needs of a broader Japanese readership, we have made certain adaptations to this textbook, adding some content. This textbook serves as an excellent learning material for self-study and can also be used as a basic textbook for Japanese major students in colleges and universities, as well as a reference book for Japanese teachers. The following are some notes on the compilation of Japanese III:
1. The original book of this volume was divided into three parts per lesson: Text, New Vocabulary, and New Kanji, with a vocabulary index and a kanji table appended at the end. The new content has been significantly expanded, with the structure being: Text, Vocabulary, Article Analysis, Notes, Grammar, Exercises, Reference Translation of the Text, and Exercise Answers. A vocabulary index and a kanji table are appended at the end.
2. For ease of learning, words are not arranged by part of speech but in the order they appear in the text, accompanied by hiragana pronunciation, pitch accent marks, part of speech, and explanations of meaning.
3. A higher level of expectation should be set for learning Japanese III. To this end, this book includes an additional section on Article Analysis, which includes themes expressed in Japanese and summaries of each paragraph, providing practice for analyzing themes and paragraph summaries in Japanese. Simple analyses of literary works in the book are also added for teaching and learning reference.
4. The original Japanese III did not include explanations of grammar and sentence patterns. Based on the characteristics of adult learners, this book has added grammar points, including explanations of sentence patterns and grammar. Sentence patterns and grammar are not systematically explained but are illustrated with necessary notes in conjunction with the text, accompanied by a sufficient number of example sentences.
5. The original Japanese III did not include exercises. After adaptation, we have added exercises, which are mainly divided into three types: fill-in-the-blanks, Japanese-to-Chinese translation, and Q&A. Fill-in-the-blanks exercises are accompanied by answers. The Q&A exercises are not provided with answers to allow learners to handle them flexibly. The Japanese-to-Chinese translation exercises are designed to suit the characteristics of Chinese learners of Japanese. Since these exercises are based on the text, no separate translation answers are provided.
6. To maintain the original writing system and style of the book, the text has not been altered, but a reference translation is provided for each lesson. The translation is as literal as possible to facilitate self-study learners in understanding the original content.
7. Notes are added for proper nouns such as names of people and places, difficult words, and sentences that are hard to understand.
