Features: Lu Yanshao (1909–1993), originally named Di, styled Wanruo. He was a native of Jiading County, Shanghai. In 1926, he graduated from Wuxi Art College and the following year began studying landscape painting under Feng Chaoran. In 1956, he was appointed as a painter at the Shanghai Art Institute. In 1962, at the invitation of Pan Tianshou, he taught landscape painting at the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, becoming a professor, the president of the Zhejiang Art Institute, and a council member of the Chinese Painting Research Institute. He was also a council member of the China Artists Association. Lu Yanshao was a truly creative landscape painter who evolved from traditional painting. His early works were meticulous and elegant, revealing a lively artistic spirit, while his later works became more profound and aged, creating techniques such as "ink blocks" and "negative space," leading to a stylistic transformation. With his unique personal charm and profound cultural cultivation, Lu Yanshao held an important position in modern Chinese art. This book compiles over 150 of his masterpieces, showcasing his stylistic evolution across different periods and delving into the origins of his style.
