Features: Although the preliminary and final rounds of the National Physics Competition for High School Students differ in emphasis and purpose, as a large-scale examination organized by the Chinese Physical Society and uniformly graded nationwide, both rounds reflect a unified arrangement in terms of difficulty and gradient, as well as the distribution of olympiad-related knowledge points. In fact, they are an inseparable whole. Below, we will analyze the preliminary and final round questions from the 21st National Physics Competition for High School Students (2004) as an example.
I. Clear Emphasis
The two sets of questions from this year fully reflect the different purposes of the examination. In the preliminary round, among the nine major questions, only the 6th (spherical refraction) and 8th (simplification of infinite networks and capacitor connections) were completely absent from Gaokao training; the 9th question, although requiring the quantitative expression of elastic potential energy, only touched on the topic peripherally. As for the other questions, the requirements for knowledge and skills were essentially the same as those in Gaokao, and the difficulty would not exceed the average difficulty of Gaokao calculation problems. The physical scenarios were also quite traditional.
II. Exam Analysis
From the perspective of the exam structure, this year's preliminary and final rounds maintained consistency with previous years. The question types were mainly calculation problems, and the number of questions and point values for each question were similar to those in recent years. The final round of this year had the following distinct features:
A. The text of the questions was generally longer than in previous years, posing significant challenges to students' reading ability, information processing ability, and even psychological resilience.
B. The physical scenarios in the questions were relatively novel, making it difficult to find direct correspondences from existing training question models. Therefore, the ability to break down problems and convert models was highly required.
C. There were knowledge points that deviated from the requirements of the Outline of the National Physics Competition for High School Students. Although the knowledge of relativity was not included in the olympiad Outline, it had been included as supplementary reading material in the new Gaokao textbooks. Additionally, angular momentum conservation in the second question could be avoided, with Kepler's second law used instead for the solution. However, regardless of the specifics, this posed a challenge for students who lacked sufficient preparation in terms of mindset and knowledge.
Through the analysis of past questions, we can see that the National Physics Competition for High School Students assesses students' comprehensive qualities. We hope that this book will provide helpful support to students during their competition preparation, enabling them to achieve good results!
