Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 1 - Kanji & Vocabulary

Author: Liu Wenzhao (Editor)

Publishing Date: 2005-05-01
Features: The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) requires Level 1 candidates to master a vocabulary of nearly 10,000 words. However, a review of the exam papers over the past ten years reveals that, apart from vocabulary in the reading section, the question range in the Kanji and Vocabulary section has largely stayed within the scope of the "JLPT Questioning Standards," which lists 7,800 words. Even when options in the questions occasionally include words outside the "Questioning Standards," the correct answer is almost always within that range. Therefore, mastering these 7,800 words is crucial. As a result, the vocabulary in this book is carefully selected to stay within the "Questioning Standards." The exercises are categorized by part of speech, allowing readers to clearly understand the vocabulary volume for each part of speech in Level 1 and study with a clear target. The questions correspond to the new exam syllabus and are primarily written in the format of the latest exam papers. However, the sections on "Kanji with Furigana" and "Furigana with Kanji" require readers to practice writing. When learning vocabulary, focus should be placed on reading words, polysemous words, synonymic words, fixed collocations, and those that Chinese learners often misinterpret by literal translation. It is worth noting that while this exercise book is primarily focused on Level 1 vocabulary, it also covers Level 2 vocabulary. Since the annual Level 1 exam papers often include some words of Level 2 difficulty, it is essential not to neglect Level 2 vocabulary while studying for Level 1. At the end of the book, a Level 1 vocabulary list is provided, along with an appendix of newly added Level 1 words from the updated exam syllabus for reference. This exercise book has been reviewed by Japanese language expert Professor Hara Hiroshi, for which we express our sincere gratitude. Other contributors to this book include Sun Longmei, Li Ye, Zhang Ming, Han Zijing, Guo Rong, Li Peiqin, and Zeng Kefan. Due to the limitations of our expertise, any inaccuracies in this book are kindly corrected. Finally, we sincerely wish everyone success in achieving good results and passing the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 2 this year.
