Features: Lotus is one of China's top ten famous flowers, anciently known as "Hehua" or "Furen." Chinese painting features numerous works on lotus, with a long history. It is said that the "Furong Jiaodeng Tu" by Xiao Yi during the Northern and Southern Dynasties is one of the earliest works in China featuring lotus. The "Chushui Furong Tu" by Wu Bing, a painter from the Southern Song Dynasty's imperial painting academy, now preserved in the Palace Museum in Beijing, is a true ink painting masterpiece that portrays lotus as the sole subject. The painting features one flower and one leaf, with lifelike and vivid imagery, meticulous realism, and is an invaluable treasure in China's scroll painting heritage. Subsequent works by painters from the Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties, as well as modern and contemporary artists, have depicted the elegant and pure posture of the standing lotus from various perspectives, creating many excellent works with fresh colors, fine brushwork, and delicate textures, providing rare models for later generations to emulate. Chinese painters have emphasized learning from nature, observing the natural world in depth, and understanding its transformations. The meticulous style and characteristics of bird-and-flower ink paintings require artists to grasp the overall features, growth patterns, basic structures, and forms of flowers, as well as their ecological habits, capture their images, and feel their vitality. Therefore, to paint a good ink lotus, mastering the ecological characteristics of the lotus is essential.
