Based on their extensive experience in corporate business work and corporate English training, the authors have collected the 100 most frequently used sentence patterns in various business settings and organized them into scenes and sections. They have also conducted detailed analysis and description of the linguistic content, structural function, and practical scenarios of each sentence. This approach enhances the targeted nature of oral learning while integrating business communication and interaction skills, effectively achieving the goal of "killing two birds with one stone" for readers.
The book is divided into 10 business scene units, including telephone, business trips, hotels, visits, meetings, numbers, socializing, etc., with 10 classic sentence patterns in each unit, totaling 100 sentences. Each sentence includes:
- Classic Sentence Patterns: The most frequently used sentences in different business settings. These must be mastered thoroughly and applied flexibly based on the sentence structures.
- Core Sentence Patterns: The backbone of the classic sentence patterns, derived through a process of distillation after mastering the full content of the classic patterns. They represent the grammatical structure, a memory aid, and a guiding approach for learners. Specific applications of core sentence patterns are covered in post-class translation exercises and explanations.
- Extended Sentence Patterns: Sentences that expand on the structure or context of classic sentence patterns, serving similar functions. These delve deeper into or broadly explore the topic under the classic pattern. Learners should familiarize themselves with extended sentence patterns after mastering the classics and further study the expressions involved.
- Core Vocabulary: The most frequently used verbs, nouns, and adjectives in business English oral communication, along with related phrases and infinitive expressions. Learners should fully grasp the usage of these words, understand their meanings, connotations, and the resulting phrases in different contexts, and practice targeted sentence creation based on their actual work.
- Extended Vocabulary: Words or phrases that expand on the core vocabulary and sentence patterns functionally or knowledge-wise. These follow the core vocabulary as a thread to explore topics in depth and breadth, helping learners understand the extended meanings of core vocabulary in other fields, with strong radiating relevance. Learners can selectively memorize based on their needs.
- Supplementary Vocabulary: Common conceptual nouns or noun phrases in classic sentence scenarios, or useful supplements to related topic knowledge. They cater to learners' varying levels of understanding and needs on different topics, and can be appropriately explored.
- Classic Dialogues: Scene dialogues that incorporate classic sentence patterns and core vocabulary. Learners can experience the role of classic sentence patterns in communication through dialogues. In some chapters, in addition to classic dialogues, relevant business etiquette, business knowledge, and communication strategies are also introduced, often becoming the most favored practical exercises for learners in training.
