Theoretically, the origin of humans can be traced back to the time when life first appeared on Earth, which is approximately 3.5 billion years ago. Humans belong to the vertebrates, so we should also have the evolutionary history of vertebrates. The evolutionary history of vertebrates typically includes the following stages: fish evolved into amphibians, and animals moved from water to land; amphibians evolved into reptiles, becoming completely land-based animals; and reptiles further evolved into birds and mammals. Since humans are a type of mammal, we may share a common origin with other vertebrates. This common ancestor lived in water and breathed through gills.
The origin and evolution of humans described in this book begin when our ancestors started to resemble humans slightly. However, it is difficult to determine when our ancestors began to evolve to resemble humans, even the scientific community is still researching this question. This is because most of the evidence we use consists of individual fossils.
