Features: In the summer, an old spinster named Rachel brings her two adult nieces (one male and one female) to the countryside for vacation. In the villa they rent, there is a striking spiral staircase. What cannot be ignored is that a series of strange events keep happening near this spiral staircase. First, the son of the villa owner (a banker) is shot to death near the stairs, followed by the appearance of one ghost after another. The villa had long been rumored to be haunted, and now, it drove away the maids one by one. Meanwhile, the banker's bank went bankrupt, and he suddenly died of a heart attack. The police were stationed there, but the events continued to unfold. Rachel, who insisted on staying to uncover the truth, soon found herself facing both visible and invisible threats demanding she leave immediately. She suspected everyone in the house but was repeatedly convinced otherwise by herself. Determined to find the truth, Rachel decided to act alone. She discovered a secret room and entered it alone. Just as she felt a sense of triumph, the door was slammed shut. She was trapped inside for two days and two nights, unable to let anyone know. The air grew thinner, and Rachel was on the verge of despair. The door finally opened, and a person appeared—someone who had clearly come prepared. True fear set in. This was the "dead" banker. The structure of the story is tight, full of suspense. As a classic in the genre of suspense novels, it undeniably holds lasting value. The title "The Spiral Staircase" serves as a key scene and motif in the book, and since its publication, it has become synonymous with suspense novels. The plot of "The Spiral Staircase" is unique, engaging, and brilliantly written—making it impossible not to enjoy.
