With the promulgation of the new "English Curriculum Standards," English teaching reform in middle schools has entered a new stage, raising new requirements for students' knowledge, communication skills, cultural awareness, and other aspects. Extracurricular reading is no longer just an optional supplement to classroom teaching but has become an indispensable part of English learning. The "New Curriculum Standards" have made clear stipulations on the quantity of extracurricular reading for students and proposed a series of new requirements for training objectives. To this end, Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press has collaborated with Longman to compile this series, "FLTRP–Longman Middle School English Graded Readers: New Curriculum Encyclopedic Series."
