Section Clamp Table, Bench Vise
1. Clamp Table
A clamp table, also known as a workbench, is the primary workspace for tool fitters. In addition to storing and placing various tools, measuring instruments, and workpieces, a bench vise must be installed on the clamp table (see Figure 1-1). To ensure stability during work, the clamp table typically adopts a steel-wood structure, though wood-only structures are also used. The height of the table surface should be approximately 800–900 mm from the ground to provide the operator with a suitable working height and position. The length and width of the table can be adjusted based on the workspace and production needs, with the requirement that the fixed jaw of the vise extends beyond the edge of the clamp table to facilitate the smooth clamping and handling of workpieces.
When using a clamp table, the following precautions should be observed:
(1) Avoid stacking heavy objects or raw workpieces on the clamp table. Precision parts and measuring instruments should be placed neatly. Rubber pads should be used between the table surface and parts to prevent damage.
(2) Ensure that the workpieces and tools placed on the table do not extend beyond the edge.
(3) Tools and measuring instruments not in use should be stored neatly in the drawers or toolboxes of the clamp table or cabinet (see Figure 1-2).
(4) After finishing work, remove cuttings and debris from the clamp table, and arrange the tools, measuring instruments, and workpieces neatly to maintain a clean surface.
