Features: The former name of Shenzhen was Bao'an County. Bao'an County was established in the sixth year of the Xianhe period of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. It was named so because there was a mountain called Bao Mountain producing silver in the area, and the name implies "Bao (silver) can bring peace and stability." In the first year of the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, it was re-established as a county with the name Xin'an. In 1914, it was reverted to Bao'an. In 1979, the county was abolished, and Shenzhen was established as a city under direct provincial leadership. In 1980, it became an economic special zone. Currently, it administers six districts: Luohu, Futian, Nanshan, Yantian, Longgang, and Bao'an. The municipal government is headquartered at the (Citizen Center). The city covers an area of 2,020 square kilometers, with a permanent population of over 5 million, most of whom are migrants. Therefore, Shenzhen is also known as the "Immigrant City."
Shenzhen is located on the eastern coast of the Pearl River Delta, bordering Daya Bay to the east, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to the south, and Dongguan City and Huizhou City to the north. Most of the city's territory consists of low mountains and hills, while the western part is a coastal plain. The average temperature in January is 14.1°C, and in July, it is 28°C. The average annual precipitation is 1,933.8 millimeters, with frequent typhoon rains in summer and autumn, characteristic of a subtropical marine monsoon climate. A modern three-dimensional transportation network has been established. Major railways such as the Guangzhou-Baotou High-Speed Railway and the Beijing-Jiujiang Railway intersect here; major highways include the Guangzhou-Shenzhen, Shenzhen-Shantou, and Shenzhen-Huizhou expressways. It has the largest land passenger port in China, the second-largest container seaport in China (Yantian Port), and the fourth-largest airport in China (Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport). Shenzhen is an important port for China's foreign trade and international exchanges. The industrial sector, led by high-tech industries, has become the driving force behind the city's rapid economic growth, forming an industrial system dominated by electronics, textiles and apparel, chemicals, machinery, food and beverages, building materials, and power.
Leveraging the advantages of tourism resources in the special zone and its geographical proximity to Hong Kong and Macau, Shenzhen has developed numerous scenic areas with national and local characteristics, attracting countless domestic and international tourists. With its unique style, rich cultural (content), and exquisite architecture, Shenzhen has successfully developed major scenic systems such as Window of the World, Folk Culture Village, Splendid China, and Happy Valley, making it a renowned tourist city.
