This series is compiled by the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads and is a research outcome of the Beijing Step-by-Step Quality Education Research Institute. Since its publication by the Olympic Press, it has stood out uniquely and is deeply loved by teachers, parents, and students. After significant revisions, re-editions, or complete rewrites, it has been renamed as "Golden Medal Olympiads" and "Golden Medal Schools" series, and is now re-published and distributed by Jinghua Publishing House. At this re-publication, sincere gratitude is extended to millions of readers across the country. Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads (abbreviated as Subject Olympiads) are one of the most extensive, widely participated, and influential subject competition activities for primary and secondary school students in China. Subject Olympiads are derived from and extended from the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), International Physics Olympiad (IPHO), International Chemical Olympiad (ICHO), and other internationally influential secondary school subject competitions that attract millions of young students every year. The reason for such attention lies in the strong innovation, flexibility, and comprehensiveness of Olympiads, as well as their focus on cultivating students' exploration skills and inspiring their innovative awareness—qualities that are precisely at the core of quality education. This is also the need for future development. Based on years of careful study of this activity both domestically and internationally, as well as a vast number of excellent books in this category, the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited outstanding educators dedicated to this field from all over the country to compile and publish a series of books on mathematics, Chinese, English, physics, chemistry, biology, and information technology—covering seven subjects and totaling over 200 varieties. In terms of the variety, quantity, and quality of our Olympiad books, they are considered the most influential among peers both domestically and internationally, and are the most appealing to primary and secondary school teachers and students. The compilation purpose and characteristics of the "Golden Medal Olympiads" and "Golden Medal Schools" series are as follows:
1. High: Derived from textbooks but exceeding them. Derived from textbooks means it is written in accordance with the new [curriculum standards] of the Ministry of Education, while exceeding them means it is closely aligned with the competition syllabi of various levels, ensuring comprehensive alignment in content, question types, and skill requirements. It aims to cultivate interest, develop intelligence, and enhance abilities.
2. Accurate: Scientifically precise and structurally sound. Each book is designed according to the characteristics of the subject, scientifically organized, and follows a step-by-step principle, offering in-depth yet accessible analysis and comprehensive, detailed problem-solving methods.
3. Novel: Features unique and engaging question types. It compiles the essence of recent Olympiad, middle school, and high school exam questions from both China and abroad, representing the highest level of current Olympiad standards and reflecting new concepts in curriculum reform, as well as new ideas, methods, and trends in competition question-setting.
4. Refined: Selects exemplary problems that are challenging yet not obscure, flexible, and achievable. It emphasizes the ability to generalize from specific examples and to apply knowledge to different contexts. It focuses on multi-solution, multi-variable, and multi-question approaches, prioritizing the training of thinking skills over rote memorization, making learning an interest and hobby.
