Physiology

Author: Wang Tinghuai, Editor-in-Chief
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2004-01-01
Features: The medical textbook project by Higher Education Press was initiated and planned by the China Medical Doctor Association, the National Higher Education Teaching Research Association, and over a dozen renowned medical schools in China in early 2002, with dozens of institutions joining later. Nearly two thousand authors participated in the textbook development, including leading figures in the medical field, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, leaders of relevant medical professional committees, and academic backbone members. Notably, a large number of mid-level and young teachers working at the forefront of teaching and clinical practice were also included. The "Higher Education Press" medical textbooks retain the essential "three foundations" knowledge found in domestic counterparts while removing outdated theories and content based on the transformation of the medical model and changes in disease patterns. They also incorporate recognized new knowledge and technologies. The textbooks are presented in a three-dimensional and serialized format, fully reflecting the characteristics of medical education. In recent years, our press has not only published medical textbooks for other disciplines and levels but has also developed corresponding teaching resource libraries and subject websites to provide comprehensive teaching packages and solutions for institutions. Pursuing advanced educational theories and teaching methods and building high-quality textbooks is our shared aspiration!
Physiology is edited by Professor Wang Tinghuai, a doctoral supervisor at Sun Yat-sen University, with Vice Editors Professor Han Taizhen from Xi'an Jiaotong University and Professor Zi Dangdong from Jinan University. Over a dozen expert professors from various institutions who have long been engaged in frontline teaching participated in the writing. The book is divided into 13 chapters: Introduction, Basic Functions of Cells, Blood, Circulation, Respiration, Digestion and Absorption, Formation and Excretion of Urine, Energy Metabolism, Temperature Regulation, Sensory Organs, Nervous System, Endocrine System, and Reproduction.
Key Features of the Book:
1. Scientific and Rational Chapter Arrangement: Energy metabolism and temperature regulation are compiled as separate chapters, with revisions based on the latest research progress in physiology to correct and improve previous textbook inaccuracies.
2. Emphasis on Experiments: The book includes additional physiological knowledge closely related to clinical practice and representative experimental methods.
3. Practicality and Readability: The textbook features a significantly increased number of illustrations, with new, vivid, intuitive, and concise visuals closely tied to clinical applications. It also incorporates a guide-to-read section, English summaries, and relevant exercises with learning navigation websites at the end of each chapter.
4. Supplementary CD-ROM: The accompanying CD includes three types of content:
(1) Expanded Textbook Content: Provides in-depth explanations of key and challenging points, with English annotations for physiological terms.
(2) Expanded Textbook Image Library: Offers detailed descriptions of selected textbook content, including dynamic Flash-based illustrations.
(3) Question Bank: Closely aligned with the National Medical Examination, featuring detailed answers for each question.
This textbook is suitable for five-year undergraduate and seven-year graduate students in medical programs. A teaching outline, Physiology Guide-to-Read, has also been compiled to assist instructors and students.
