Features: Selected Works of Ancient Chinese Literature (Volume 3 Revised Edition) is published by Zhejiang University Press. This book is suitable as a textbook for ancient Chinese literature courses in Chinese departments of universities, colleges, correspondence education, and self-study programs. It can also serve as a reading material for general literature enthusiasts interested in ancient Chinese literature. The book is divided into three volumes: Volume 1 covers the pre-Qin, Han, Three Kingdoms, Western and Eastern Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties periods; Volume 2 covers the Sui, Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, Liao, and Jin periods; and Volume 3 covers the Yuan, Ming, Qing, and Modern periods. Each volume is organized into units based on literary genres, with writers arranged in chronological order by birth year. The selected works balance ideological depth and artistic quality, primarily featuring representative works of major writers, while also considering the diversity of themes, styles, and the historical continuity of Chinese literature. To accommodate different teaching levels and facilitate both instructor-led teaching and student self-study, the selected works are divided into annotated and unannotated sections (marked with △ in the table of contents). The annotations aim to be concise, accurate, and elegant, with repeated terms or allusions generally referenced only once within the same unit. Annotation ① resembles a brief introduction, providing concise background information or insights into the ideological and artistic features of the works. Each unit includes a list of key reference materials and recommended reading lists.
