Features: This book attempts to analyze a large number of painting works from ancient and modern China and around the world, including Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, New Year pictures, murals, decorative painting, comic strips, and illustrations, from the perspective of modern systems theory. It argues that: painting composition can be regarded as a visual form system, composed of basic visual form elements (or subsystems) with different visual characteristics, such as the picture plane, shapes, colors, and textures. Elements with different qualities and quantities, when combined, arranged, and configured in different orders, form different structural layouts and possess the visual function of conveying different content, emotions, and ideas. Therefore, painting composition is a discipline that follows certain principles and can be taught, and it is not mysterious at all.
