Features: What is abstract lyricism? It refers to the kind of commentary that remains rooted in concrete matters yet is deeply imbued with the author's personal characteristics. After leaving the literary scene, Shen Congwen devoted over thirty years to the study of cultural relics, producing monumental works such as Research on Ancient Chinese Clothing. Due to space constraints, only scattered short essays are presented here, offering readers a glimpse into another splendid world that captivated Shen. The rest discusses various forms of art, short story writing, and is characterized by a unique, personal style of alternating narration and commentary.
