Features: We have organized and compiled a series of "21st Century College Music Textbooks" with Huazhong Normal University Press, aiming to implement the aforementioned reflections into concrete work. Our basic intentions are twofold:
1. Starting from the current imbalance in education development, this series of textbooks emphasizes fundamentals while also fostering growth, offering broad practicality. It fully considers the fact that music education development is uneven across regions in Hubei Province, striving to meet the actual needs of college music education in various areas of the province. At the same time, it takes into account the characteristics and actual needs of other provinces and regions across the country, hoping to share our experience in college music teaching nationwide and make it a reference for others.
2. Reflecting new educational concepts and striving for creativity. This involves two aspects:
- Compilation guidelines: Striving to achieve a balance between novelty and systematicity, making the textbooks reflect the times, new knowledge, and new insights while also demonstrating the relevance and systematic nature of knowledge. Combining practicality with academic rigor, arranging teaching materials based on students' actual needs while ensuring the knowledge content of the selected materials. Integrating scientificity, artistry, and cultural diversity, ensuring the accuracy of the content while enhancing its artistic value and incorporating cultural diversity to broaden and deepen the scope of music.
- Handling the relationship between fundamentals and advancement:
- First, strengthening fundamentals while leaving room for growth: Emphasizing foundational knowledge and skills while ensuring the basic teaching requirements of each course, while also providing students with ample room for advancement based on practicality.
- Second, balancing practicality with musicality: Highlighting practicality and capturing the essence, ensuring the teaching arrangements and student needs are met without unnecessary embellishments. At the same time, emphasizing that teaching should start from music and sound, aligning the textbooks' starting point and destination with music.
In summary, facing the current challenges in college music education and the reforms underway, we hope this series of textbooks can serve as a serious reflection and a responsible expression, while also becoming a meaningful endeavor—a platform for music learning. To this end, we have gathered the core strength of music education from colleges and universities in Hubei Province, mobilizing the entire province's resources to compile this series. The compilers include both experienced senior music educators and talented middle-aged and young scholars, all united by the common goal of creating a high-quality, adaptable, and distinctive college music textbook.
