Features: Pop songs surged back into China in the late 1970s and became increasingly popular, especially among young people. The reasons are threefold: they are catchy, easy to learn, and pop singers have become a prestigious profession. Currently, there are more singing competitions and art schools, and new singers are emerging, creating a thriving scene in the pop music industry. With years of experience teaching pop singing and serving as a judge in various competitions and singer exams, as well as attending numerous pop music concerts, I have identified several pressing and necessary issues in the pop singer community:
1. Many singers lack a solid foundation in basic musical training and have limited cultural literacy, resulting in creativity being scarce and imitation being abundant in their performances.
2. A small number of singers neglect proper vocal techniques, relying solely on talent and youth to compete, only to damage their voices in the long run.
3. Some singers disregard professional ethics and public morality, stagnating after minor achievements or even becoming a disgrace to the pop music industry.
The purpose of this book is twofold: First, to share some experiences and insights on teaching and training methods for pop singing, hoping to benefit those who wish to learn pop songs and to engage in discussions and exchanges with fellow educators in the field. Second, to express my views on the essential qualities a qualified singer must possess, serving as a reference for singers and those aspiring to become singers.
