Publishing Date: 2005-05-01
Features: This book is a collection of two works by the late renowned legal scholar Professor Wang Boqi (1908-1961), republished in the form of an upper and lower volume. The upper volume is Modern Legal Thoughts and Chinese Traditional Culture, published in 1956, while the lower volume is a compilation of Professor Wang's scattered posthumous writings by Mr. Wang Qizhong, which were previously published under the title A Collection of Legal Essays by Wang Boqi in 1998. This time, it has been authorized to be included in the Chinese Legal Studies Series and published in mainland China, symbolizing the return of Professor Wang's works to their homeland after being for nearly half a century. Professor Wang Boqi studied abroad in France and obtained a doctorate in law. After returning to China, he served in both government and academia, primarily focusing on legal education. He taught at the Faculty of Law of National Taiwan University but passed away at a young age. Throughout his life, he specialized in civil law while also engaging in legal theory, with numerous works to his name. His life and scholarship reflect the independent thinking of Chinese legal citizens in the era of Sino-Western interaction; his thoughts and reflections are an important legacy of Chinese legal scholarship in the 20th century; and his personal experiences and lifelong pursuits, like those of many Chinese legal scholars of his generation, are epitomes of the tumultuous tide of the 20th-century Chinese era. Therefore, publishing Professor Wang's posthumous works is not only beneficial for enlightening future Chinese scholars but also aims to honor the legal scholarship of the Chinese language civilization. It seeks to build the legal wisdom of Chinese civilization through the painstaking efforts of academic accumulation and intellectual inheritance.
