Features: The (Putonghua Proficiency Test, PPT) is a major initiative for promoting Putonghua and an important vehicle for making the promotion of Putonghua work more scientific, standardized, and institutionalized. The PPT has been incorporated into the 《》 (National Law of the People's Republic of China on General National Language and Characters), which explicitly states: Broadcasters, program hosts, film and television actors, teachers, and government officials who use Putonghua as their working language must meet the national-level proficiency standards at the appropriate levels. The 《》 (Implementation Measures for the Teacher Qualification Regulations) issued by the Ministry of Education also requires Putonghua proficiency as one of the entry requirements for teachers. These provisions provide a legal and policy basis for the PPT.
The PPT is a national-level examination. In accordance with national deployment, Zhejiang Province has been conducting the PPT for ten years, with over 400,000 test-takers. In just the year 2002, there were over 100,000 test-takers. The scope of the test has also expanded from broadcasters, teachers, and students in normal universities to government officials and service personnel in industries such as tourism, commerce, railways, banking, and telecommunications. Over the years, we have trained over a thousand national and provincial-level PPT examiners, and 15 provincial and municipal (university) Putonghua Training and Testing Centers have been established. This has further standardized Putonghua training and testing, forming a work network that meets needs, is standardized and scientific, maintains stable quality, operates effectively, and utilizes modern methods.
This is a textbook for Putonghua training and testing in Zhejiang Province. Tailored to the dialect features of the province and addressing the key and difficult aspects of Putonghua learning for Zhejiang residents, the book emphasizes practicality, applicability, layered content, and guidance. It can serve as a training textbook for various levels of PPT and also as a self-study resource for Putonghua proficiency test-takers from all walks of life.
