Features: This book examines and studies the concept of national security within the context of globalization, attempting to interpret the evolution and restructuring of the concept from a new perspective. Overall, the evolution and restructuring of the concept of national security in the process of globalization exhibit the following characteristics:
From the perspective of security subjects, in the pre-globalization era, the state has always been the most fundamental subject of security, and all security issues revolve around the state as the center. In terms of security factors, traditional concepts of national security regard military force as the most important means of maintaining national security. Non-traditional concepts of national security, however, argue that military force is no longer the sole factor influencing or determining national security; economic, political, cultural, and other factors are all essential means of safeguarding national security. Regarding security status, traditional concepts of national security hold that the coefficient of national security and national strength are proportional, and the state of national security is relatively easy to grasp. In terms of the composition of national strength, traditional concepts of national security consider that hard power factors such as military force, population, and resources are the dominant factors influencing and determining national security.
Against the backdrop of the globalization process, this book conducts a thorough exploration of the following points: systematically reviewing the concepts of realism, liberalism, and constructivism in national security; analyzing and researching new theories such as neomperialism and failed states and their impact on the concept of national security; dividing globalization into the pre-globalization and current globalization periods based on its developmental characteristics; providing a logical outlook on the development of globalization as a strategic background for constructing China's concept of national security and reflecting on related issues; and connecting the historical and theoretical aspects of the rise and fall of Western major powers to analyze the concept of a "peaceful rise."
