Features: After listening to opinions from relevant experts, "Essays Selection" decided to invite influential writers, critics, and editors from across the country to form the China Essays Ranking Selection Committee. The committee was tasked with selecting outstanding essays published in national periodicals that year. The criteria for the essays ranking were roughly as follows: those that demonstrated personal strength, life value, and intellectual brilliance; those that sincerely, vividly, philosophically, and humorously reflected on humanistic spirit; those that delicately depicted life scenes and sensed psychological journeys; those that were fresh, pure, and elegant; and those that showed creative and innovative expression and language use. This book compiles the selected outstanding essays from the 1998-1999 rankings for reading, reference, and archival purposes.
